Pelvic fractures

Pelvic fractures

Fractures of the pelvis are a common problem we see. While not super common we do see then once every 1-2 months.

Commonly these horses present with a sudden onset lameness that is very painful initially.

X-ray diagnosis is hard due to muscle mass. However the ultrasound machine loves to diagnose these cases. Ultrasound is so well suited to the diagnosis of pelvic injury.

The ability to do this with minimal equipment and portables makes it so easy.

The good news is that they heal well generally unless involving the hip joint.
