Tendon sheath swelling

Tendon Sheath Swelling

Tendon sheath swelling is a common issue. Some can be benign and of little concern while others are more sinister.

With a lot of the them they can be long standing and not cause an issue for the horse. Others are a little more sinister and cause lameness issues. For this reason we often suggest ultra sounding them to assess for any signs of tendon or ligament damage.

Equally getting an image of the tendons is very important as it gives you a baseline to compare to down the track if any lameness starts to come from the tendon sheath.

Initially for an acute injury our preference is to try and settle the inflammation down with ice and anti-inflammatories. Some we will even consider injecting with anti-inflammatories. Others if more chronic we will avoid injecting them.

If in doubt check it out is our moto with these type of issues.
