Foot balance

Foot balance is such an important thing for our performance horses. When we do some measurements on X-rays. We look at multiple issues.

Iā€™m this short post we look at:

Caudal support ratio

The Caudal Support % is a measure of how much of the foot is behind the centre of rotation through the coffin joint. In an ideal world we aim for 40% behind (heel structure region) behind this line. A smaller number means that the heels are often crushed and a larger force is being placed on small area.

Placing more pressure on the back of the foot does a couple of things such as collapsing the heels. Putting more pressure on the navicular bone, and the associated soft tissue components.
