Return to exercise in rehab?

Rehab from Injury.

Return to Exercise

The rehab process is so important for horses as we return them to full work. Each horse has a rehab program created to suit not only the injury but also the facilities you may have and also the requirements of the horse.

I have a saying called ‘WE PUSH THEM TO THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF BUT NOT OVER’

By this I mean that we gradually push them over the horse to take more and more load but don’t push them over the edge. With different disciplines we can do different things to increase the work and build the horse back up.

An example is a show jumper meant to be doing 1.20m jumps we might take them out and compete at 60/70cm. This is a great ability to get the partnership working and then slowly increase back up the grades. No different for a dressage horse working back up, maybe an outing doing a Novice test for the horse doing Medium might allow you to clear out the cobwebs but get back in the ring. Then over the following weeks and months we can gradually increase the work.
